My husband the hunter

So Jason finally got drawn for elk this year and was super excited. I on the other hand was not too excited at the fact that he would be gone for 10 days, but I survived. Him and his friend Mike left last Thursday to start the hunt and by Monday Jason had shot his first elk! What on earth am I going to do with him, he loves being a mountain man. And don't you worry, he is planning on having the head stuffed and mounted and plans to display it proudly in our new house. (when we get one that is) Can you imagine a huge elk head in my house?! I guess that's what happens when you marry a small town boy that loves the outdoors. I do have to say that I am proud of him, it is a lot of hard work. They had to carry the elk 3 miles to put it in the truck!

Here is all the meat! Does anyone have any good recipes for elk meat? Cause let me tell you I am going to need all the help I can get. I have eaten elk meat once my whole life, and it looks like I will be eating a lot of it for the like next 10 years. Yikes, good thing we have a deep freeze!

Michael wants me to tell you to tell Jason that he thinks he photoshopped the whole thing.

For me, being a hunter is a deal breaker. There will be no heads of dead animals in my house ever. Period. You are a good woman and Jason is a lucky man cause that would not fly with me.

HOly Elk! You are a good woman! I'd say you want to hang that head you better have a basement to hang it in! OUt of sight! MISS YOU! I am in serious need of a haircut! I will be in Az in november- might have to squeeze an appointment in while I am there!

Call Aunt Susan fast! She will know just what to do. As for the Elk head there better be a den for Jason in the new house.

I can't believe they had to carry that big elk 3 miles! WOW!
I also just thought that if it doesn't all fit in your freezer, you can also bottle it. It's really easy. I could help you...well if I'm not having a baby. :)

Oh no you're in trouble. Hunters are crazy. Haha! I would know, i have way to many in my family.

Have you ever had elk meat? I'm not a fan but i do like it as jerky.

Call Christi and Jason. They love elk meat and eat it all the time. You can substitute it for beef in almost any recipe, just remember that it is much, much lower in fat content and so you have to compensate for that.

Mike is a bit jealous of Jason. That is one big elk. Good job, Jason! Good luck with the whole head mounting thing. Maybe your in-laws have room to hang it at their house and you can just go visit it!
